Ageing naturally: making conscious choices about subtle refinement

About natural beauty, subtle refinement and the medical considerations involved.

You may recognise this.

You feel energetic inside, full of plans and full of life.

But sometimes, when you look in the mirror, you see a more tired version of yourself. A sterner expression. A face that no longer quite reflects how you feel inside.

That is not always about vanity.

For many people, it matters that their appearance feels somewhat aligned with who they are and how they feel. That is entirely human.

Growing older does not have to mean losing yourself

Growing older can be beautiful. It is part of life.

Even so, your face changes over the years, often so gradually that you do not notice it from one day to the next.

The skin slowly produces less collagen. It becomes slightly thinner and drier and loses some of its resilience. Volume may decrease in areas such as the cheeks, temples or jawline.

Your facial expressions also leave traces over time. The small movements made throughout a lifetime can become visible around the eyes and between the eyebrows.

None of this is a problem that has to be solved.

Together, however, these small changes can make your face look tired or stern even when that is not how you feel.

You do not have to become someone different

At EmpowerBeauty Clinic, changing your face is not the starting point.

During a consultation, we discuss what you have noticed, which options exist and whether choosing not to treat may suit you better.

The aim of a careful cosmetic treatment is not to make you look noticeably younger. It is not about creating a different face or removing every line.

A treatment can influence your appearance, but its effect and how you experience it vary from person to person.

We therefore cannot guarantee that your expression will remain exactly the same, that a treatment will be invisible or that a predetermined result will be achieved.

A realistic assessment of the possibilities, limitations and risks matters more than a promise about the outcome.

How Drs. Joanny Wlodarz-Landaeta assesses your face

At EmpowerBeauty Clinic, we do not look at only one line or one area. We consider your face as a whole.

Your facial movement. Your skin quality. Your volume. Your natural balance.

Because of her medical background, Drs. Joanny Wlodarz-Landaeta considers not only what is technically possible, but especially what may be medically responsible and appropriate for you.

Often, it is not one line that concerns someone. It is the overall impression, such as a stern or tired look that the face conveys unintentionally.

Sometimes muscle relaxers may be discussed when someone experiences a stern expression. Sometimes skin quality may be a reason to consider a treatment focused on hydration or firmness. Sometimes fillers are discussed when loss of volume plays a role. None of these options is suitable for everyone, and each treatment has its own possible side effects and complications.

And sometimes, very little needs to happen.

What may suit you depends on your face, your wishes, your health and your story. It is not a standard formula. It is personal care.

Medically responsible and personal

A medically responsible decision always starts with a careful conversation.

We discuss what you see, what you would like to experience differently and which expectations are realistic. We also consider your health, medical history and any reasons not to perform a treatment yet or at all.

Sometimes treatment may be appropriate. Sometimes waiting is wiser. And sometimes doing nothing is the best advice.

Honest advice, a careful assessment of benefits and risks and sufficient time to consider your decision always come before treatment.

Possible risks and side effects

No medical cosmetic treatment is without risk. Possible side effects and complications depend on factors including the treatment, the treatment area, your health and aftercare.

After an injectable treatment, redness, swelling, tenderness, pain, bruising or asymmetry may occur. Less commonly, more serious complications can arise, including infection, an allergic reaction, tissue damage or an unwanted change in function or appearance.

Muscle-relaxing treatments, fillers and treatments aimed at skin quality also have specific risks and reasons not to treat. Before any treatment, Drs. Joanny Wlodarz-Landaeta discusses which risks are relevant to you, what alternatives exist and when you should contact the clinic.

The effect, duration, recovery and suitability vary from person to person. A desired outcome therefore cannot be guaranteed.

Why a restrained approach can matter

Many people say they prefer a subtle change to a noticeable one.

A restrained approach can be a starting point, but the effect, visibility and satisfaction still cannot be predicted exactly in advance.

That is why we prefer to discuss limited, step-by-step options instead of automatically treating everything that is technically possible.

Together, we consider whether treatment, postponement or doing nothing is the most responsible choice.

Considering a fresher appearance

Ageing naturally and feeling fresh are not mutually exclusive.

You are allowed to grow older. You can mature, grow and remain yourself.

If something about your appearance no longer feels aligned with how you feel inside, you may choose to discuss possible treatments and their limitations.

A cosmetic treatment changes your appearance and involves uncertainty and risk. Whether an effect feels right for you is personal and cannot be guaranteed beforehand.

After the consultation, you are therefore given room to make a conscious choice to proceed, postpone or do nothing.

Frequently asked questions

Questions about ageing naturally

Will I look different after a cosmetic treatment?

A cosmetic treatment affects your appearance. A subtle treatment plan can be the starting point, but we cannot guarantee that your expression will remain exactly the same, that the effect will be invisible or that you will experience the result as natural.

When is a good time to consider subtle refinement?

There is no fixed age. Many people start considering it when their face looks tired or stern while they do not feel that way. During a personal conversation, we assess together what may suit you at this time.

Is one treatment always enough?

That varies by person, concern and treatment. Sometimes no follow-up is advised after one treatment; in other cases, a follow-up may be discussed. A specific effect or number of treatments cannot be guaranteed in advance.

Is a cosmetic treatment safe?

No medical cosmetic treatment is without risk. Possible side effects and complications vary by treatment and person. We therefore assess your wishes, health, medical history and expectations and discuss relevant risks, alternatives and aftercare before you decide.

I do not want to look treated. Can you guarantee that?

No. We can discuss a restrained treatment plan, but we cannot guarantee how visible the effect will be, whether your expression will remain exactly the same or how you and others will experience the result. Choosing not to treat always remains an option.
