Tension headache
treatment

Tension headaches are often linked to chronic muscle tension in the head, neck and jaw area. With botulinum toxin type A we can temporarily relax specific muscle groups. This may reduce pressure and help relieve symptoms, especially when tension keeps building up repeatedly.

Average 3 – 4 months

About the treatment

The goal isn’t to ‘freeze everything’ — it’s to reduce overload and give your head real relief.

  • Targeted muscle relaxation
  • Medically responsible
  • Subtle dosing
  • Review & fine-tuning

Who is this for?

  • Recurring tension headaches linked to muscle tension
  • Pressure / ‘tight band’ feeling around the head
  • Headaches connected to neck or jaw tension
  • When relaxation/physio helps but isn’t enough or doesn’t last

Important to know

This is not a guaranteed ‘cure’. Tension headaches can have multiple causes (stress, posture, sleep, jaw/neck). Botulinum toxin may help when muscle tension is a clear factor. During the consultation we check if your symptoms fit and what’s realistic.

What to expect

When will I feel the effect?

Often after 3–7 days. Optimal effect around 10–14 days.

How long does it last?

Average 3–4 months. Repeat treatment may be needed.

Will it feel ‘strange’?

Treated muscles may feel less tight/strong — that’s the point.

Our approach

1. Consultation

We discuss your pattern, triggers and muscle areas (neck/forehead/jaw).

2. Plan

We choose the muscle groups and conservative dosing (safe approach).

3. Treatment

Small injections in selected muscles. Duration ± 20–30 minutes.

4. Review

After 2–4 weeks we evaluate results and fine-tune if needed.

Aftercare

  • Stay upright for the first 4 hours (avoid lying flat).
  • Avoid intense exercise for 24 hours.
  • Do not massage or rub injection areas for 24 hours.
  • Avoid sauna/steam room and alcohol in the first 24 hours.

Safety & possible side effects

Possible: redness, mild swelling or a small bruise. Sometimes a temporary heavy/tired feeling in a muscle. If you have concerns or unexpected symptoms, contact us.
